Types of Trucking Accidents

Any type of traffic accident can be potentially serious, or even life threatening, though some motor vehicle accidents are much worse than others. A slow-speed crash on a neighborhood street might rattle the occupants of a vehicle, but the opportunity for serious injury — such as a broken arm or leg, or closed head injury — is arguably very low. In contrast, such as a crash on the Capital Beltway, the chances of severe bodily injury from a higher-speed accident rise accordingly. In general, the speed and size of the vehicles involved typically determine how serious a traffic accident may be for the drivers and passengers involved.

Naturally, car-to-car accidents tend to threaten the health of the occupants in each vehicle to a relatively similar extent, with some exceptions — T-bone style crashes and collisions between an older vehicle (without advanced safety features) and a newer model may result in distinctly different outcomes for the passengers in each car. In general, as size and weight disparity increases between two motor vehicles involved in a highway collision, there is a commensurate increase in the danger to occupants traveling in the smaller and lighter vehicle.

In a scenario where an 18-wheel tractor-trailer rig strikes a passenger vehicle of any size at highway speeds, the chances of severe injury for those passengers in the smaller vehicle are quite high. Though the driver of the commercial truck may sustain some level of physical injury in an interstate crash with a passenger car, the odds of the driver and passengers riding in the smaller motor vehicle sustaining serious or even fatal injuries are much greater.

While surviving a bad commercial trucking crash is certainly cause to be thankful, the recovery period following such an event can be long and painful for many Maryland traffic accident victims. As seasoned personal injury attorneys, the legal team at Lebowitz & Mzhen, LLC, understands how physically and emotionally challenging it can be to recover from serious physical injuries, especially spinal cord damage, traumatic brain injury and other complicated medical conditions.
